If your smile has been compromised because of decay or damage to a single tooth, Dr. Maurice Benjamin can provide natural looking restorations to address both cosmetic and functional needs. Customized porcelain crowns available at the Manhattan and Brooklyn offices of All American Smile Dental Studios can reinforce the structure of the impacted tooth and restore the integrity of your smile.

What are Porcelain Crowns?

Porcelain crowns are custom-crafted dental caps that enclose the entire structure of the damaged tooth. They closely match the surrounding teeth to complete your smile. At All American Smile Dental Studios, Dr. Benjamin uses only the highest-quality porcelain crowns, which mimic the look and feel of a natural tooth.

Dental crowns are a versatile treatment and can be utilized for different cosmetic and restorative dental procedures. Crowns can cover and protect a damaged tooth, act as a support for a dental bridge, or be affixed to a dental implant to replace missing teeth.

Determining Candidacy

When you come to our practice for an initial consultation, Dr. Benjamin will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums before recommending the appropriate treatment. You may be a good candidate for porcelain crowns if you have:

  • Worn or misshapen teeth
  • A tooth that is significantly cracked or chipped
  • A decayed or damaged tooth
  • A tendency to grind your teeth
  • A misaligned bite
  • A single missing tooth that you wish to restore with a dental implant
  • Intrinsic discoloration that does not respond to professional teeth whitening treatments
  • Undergone a root canal treatment and have to restore the remaining tooth structure

As successful candidacy requires healthy teeth and gums, Dr. Benjamin will first treat any signs of gum disease, including decay or damage, before performing a dental crown procedure. We will also determine if a more conservative treatment, such as an inlay or onlay, is sufficient.

The Dental Crown Procedure

All American Smile Dental Studios features advanced technology including digital x-rays and 3-D imaging for precise and efficient procedures. Using these scans, Dr. Benjamin can design a customized treatment plan to address your unique needs.

At All American Smile Dental Studios, Dr. Benjamin uses only the highest-quality porcelain crowns, which mimic the look and feel of a natural tooth.

First Step

After thoroughly cleaning the area, Dr. Benjamin will reshape, and in some cases, fill your tooth in preparation for your dental crown. Your dentist will then take digital impressions of your smile. At our office, we are equipped with a Cadent iTero™ Digital Impression System, which is a revolutionary tool that can take precise dental impressions without any discomfort. These impressions will be sent to a specialized laboratory, where they will be used to create your custom dental crown. This process typically takes two weeks. In the interim, Dr. Benjamin may provide you with a temporary crown to ensure your comfort.

During your next appointment, you will return to our office to have your crown affixed. Dr. Benjamin will ensure that your restoration fits comfortably in your smile and may make any necessary adjustments at this time. He will then secure your permanent dental crown to your tooth using an adhesive. After leaving the office, you can finally show off your new and improved smile.
