Although some people call Invisalign® “clear braces”, our Manhattan and Brooklyn area practice offers them as an alternative to traditional braces. They are actually clear aligners that gradually and gently reposition misaligned teeth. The Invisalign® Process
Before beginning Invisalign® treatment, patients meet with one of our dentists to determine if they are candidates for Invisalign®. (Generally, patients with minor misalignment – crowding, gaps, and bite problems – are candidates.) Patients who are candidates for Invisalign® return to either our Manhattan or Brooklyn office for their first appointment. During this appointment, the dentist takes a mold of the teeth, which he sends to the Invisalign® laboratory. There, lab technicians use the molds to craft the first set of trays. The technicians use advanced computer software to plan the final result. They create a series of trays to be switched out every two weeks; each successive set moves the teeth closer to their final position. The trays are shipped to the patient’s residence, so the patient only has to return to our office for occasional check-ups (approximately every six months). When patients wear their trays as directed (day and night, taking them out only to eat, drink, brush, and floss), results are possible in as little as 6 to 18 months. After completing Invisalign® treatment, some patients choose teeth whitening to polish their smiles.
