Are you interested in straightening your teeth and enhancing the quality of your smile? If so, Invisalign® may be right for you. Below you will find answers to some of the most common questions people have about this exciting treatment for crooked teeth.

What are some of the benefits of Invisalign® over more old-fashioned treatment options?

To be concise, there are three main benefits of invisible braces. First, the aligners are practically clear--you're treatment can virtually go undetected. Second, the aligners are removable to make eating, drinking, and social interaction easier. And third, Invisalign® is made of a soft plastic-type material, unlike the metal of braces, so there is less chance for irritation.

How often do I have to see my dentist, and how often will I change my aligner?

While each desired result is unique, a typical rule of thumb is that aligners are changed out every two weeks, and office visits are scheduled anywhere between four to six weeks to manage progress and make necessary alterations to the treatment plan.

Do all dentists use Invisalign®?

No, not every dentist has been trained to design the best treatment plan to meet patient needs by utilizing Invisalign®. It's best to visit the product's website to locate a dentist in your area that is an Invisalign® Preferred Provider.

Since my teeth are physically being adjusted, is there pain associated with the process?

The short answer is yes, but to explain further, the pain is mild and temporary in nature (typically only once every two weeks when a new aligner is introduced), and is in fact a "good" thing indicating that the aligner is doing its job.

I've read that a benefit is that they are removable; but just how long do I wear them?

For maximum efficacy, it is recommended that the aligners be worn continuously (a minimum of 20 to 22 hours per day) with the exception of removal for eating, brushing, and flossing.

Since they are removable, what happens if I lose my aligner?

Because your dentist has your dental history, a replacement aligner is easily obtained.

How can I get started?

As already mentioned, you can find a Preferred Provider near you by visiting the Invisalign® website. During your first meeting (frequently a free initial consultation) the doctor will assess the correction needed and you can discuss cost and other questions that you may still have.
